He was given this verdict on eve of his hunting of rare chinkara deer in 1998.The dramatic jailing, which drew hundreds of his fans to the court and the prison complex, came a day after a district court upheld the five-year jail term given to Salman by a lower court. Salman has been convicted of poaching a chinkara deer at the Ghoda farm near Jodhpur on the night of September 28, 1998 while filming Sooraj Barjatya's blockbuster Hum Saath Saath Hain. Jail sources told IANS that Salman had been sent to barrack no 1.5, where the hugely popular actor had spent three nights in April 2006 before he got bail. Giving him company is Mahesh, who was with Salman during his first jail also. Mira Nair’s next directorial project “The Namesake ” that is based of Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel with the same name will have its world wide release in March, 07. Tabu, Irfan Khan and Kal Penn form the main star cast. But would you trust me if I say that for Mira, Tabu wasn’t the first choice to play the Kolkota-born Ashima in the novel. Mira had first approached Rani Mukherjee for the role of Ashima and had asked Abhishek Bachchan to play her son’s role. But because Abhishek was told that he will have to do a semi-nude scene and some kisses, he retracted from the project and Rani followed the suit (for reasons unknown). Mra Nair couldn’t hope for better. She has got he best of Hollywood and Bollywood in her next film Shantaram, which goes on floor after her latest project “Namesake” releases in March. Johnny Depp and Amitabh Bachchan would share the screen in Nair’s next project Shantaram. The ‘Pirates of Caribbean’ star will be playing the central character in the film, Mr Bachchan would be the kind-hearted Mumbai gangster. Johnny Depp had himself approached the New York based Indian Filmmaker to direct Shantaram. Shantaram will be extensively shot in Australia, China and India. The film is the screen adaptation of Gregory David Roberts’ book of the same name. The story is of true global value and is about an Australian convict called Roberts (Depp) who is caught for a Bank robbery and for heroin addiction. Roberts flees from prison and comes to Mumbai, India. In Mumbai he confronts the mafia and befriends Kader Bhai (Bachchan).
